Aminatu AbdulaiFrom: Ghana
Hopes to study: Medicine Accepted to: Montgomery College "In my community they concluded that education of girls is useless. Every father wants his girls to get married rather than attending. But my mother, she said she will do everything possible to give us a better life." |
Salome KahongeFrom: Malawi
Hopes to study: Law, Human Rights "There were many times we would go to school without shoes, with no food, without writing materials. My parents told us that they failed because of ignorance so we, their children, should not fail because of circumstances. They would say, 'Difficult circumstances are there to drive one forward and not backwards.'" |
Jenipher MollandFrom: Tanzania
Hopes to study: Business & Management "Everybody benefits in a social entrepreneurship because we invest in people who believe that they can do great things. We will not give up. Because of hope, we will continue with our journey in life. I wish all people around the world could have everlasting hope." |
Brenda AcheFrom: Cameroon
Hopes to study: Economics & Business "My father died when I was of young age. My mother is of age 62 and for all these years we have earned a living from crop cultivation. The problem that we usually face is lack of education since there is low income, and it also explains why only two of us go to school." |
Patricia AnyangoFrom: Uganda
Hopes to study: Nursing, Midwifery, Gynecology "When I was around five years old the LRA captured me. They came at night and destroyed my home and neighborhood by burning homes and killing people in the community. I was captured and taken to an unknown place in the bush. I escaped after two weeks." |
In 2015 we had more than double the number of applicants from 2014, so we got even more ambitious and chose our top FIFTEEN students this year. A few of them were able to pass the TOEFL and successfully gain admission to a college but only one was able to come at this time (Lillian). Others were not offered enough supplemental financial assistance and were not able to matriculate this year. Lucy was able to gain admission into a college in India and decided to go there instead. Very exciting. The others are continuing their efforts and looking at other options, still pursuing their dreams of higher education. We commend every one of them for their tremendous efforts!
