If you are interested in nominating a student to receive funding from Africa’s Tomorrow (or are a student who is looking for support), PLEASE carefully read the FAQ and download the latest info for more details. And pay close attention to the timeline.
For some more good reading, you'll probably want to check out the Sample Loan Agreement and the Standards of Conduct. And feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Once you've got all of your questions answered and you're ready to go, you can then request the Application starting January 1st. Just use that form right over there.
*Some things to keep in mind:
All applicants must be nominated by someone familiar with their situation and potential (usually a PCV or teacher, not family). We are now accepting applications only from female students. Why?
In awarding funding, our aim is to select the most needy students whose goals include returning to Africa and working to promote positive change on that continent. Recipients are selected based on this and a variety of other criteria, including: scholastic aptitude, dedication, commitment to African development, financial need, recommendations, and geographic location (preference given to students from rural areas).
After graduation and a grace period, students are required to return to Africa or must pay back their funding. This ensures that we do not contribute to “brain drain” and that donor’s efforts do indeed promote a brighter future on a continent that has been neglected for so long.
During their time in the US, students will be expected to participate in various fundraising and promotional activities for Africa’s Tomorrow, helping to ensure that funds remain available to assist additional students in the future.
We also keep track of student's progress in school and update our donors so they will know that their contributions really are making a difference. And, when students finish school, we will continue to follow them and report their achievements and the ripple effect of their new success.
Thank you for your interest!
