Africa's Tomorrow is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization based in the US (EIN: 20-3698861), which provides assistance and funding to promising students from rural Africa, helping them attend college in the US. There are thousands of motivated and talented students who are unable to continue their education because they lack the financial means. We believe that education is the key to advancement and that by helping these underprivileged students we can make a real and tangible contribution to the future of this world.
It is said that when you help a child you help their family. When you help a family you help the community. And when you help a community you change the world.
Simply stated, that is our mission – to change the world, one student at a time.
In awarding funding, our aim is to select students whose goals include returning to Africa and working to promote positive change on that continent and throughout the developing world. Recipients are selected based on this and a variety of other criteria, including: scholastic ability, dedication, commitment to Africa, financial status, recommendations, and geographic location (preference given to students from rural areas).
After graduation, students agree to return to Africa and put to use their newly acquired knowledge and skills. By doing so they are furthering the benefits of Africa's Tomorrow - it is a cascading effect that goes far beyond the individual.
If students do not return they are expected to pay back the money (no interest). This helps ensure that we do not contribute to “brain drain” and that donor’s contributions do indeed promote a brighter future on a continent that has been neglected for so long.
We also keep up with student's progress in school and update the donors, so they will know that their contributions really are making a difference. And when a student finishes school we continue to follow and report her achievements, proving that helping just one individual can benefit a much larger population. The ripple effect.
“Fo san tirige tarrima ti a jom tia a bere yin gusige lemu ti nirawoo dii.”
Africa’s Tomorrow depends heavily on the support and generosity of individuals around the globe, just like you, who are looking for a way to help those less fortunate and make a real difference. The number of students we are able to help correlates directly with the amount of support we receive. We are a small organization that works on a personal level so that donors know exactly how their donation is being used, and 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to fund a student (all board members are volunteers and do not collect any pay). And, donations are tax-deductible.
Many people want to do something positive for the world, but don't know what to do or where to begin because there are so many problems that need solving and so many options for giving. It can be overwhelming. Here is one opportunity, RIGHT NOW, to help one person and to change the world.
There are many ways to give. The easiest is right here online, safely and securely, via PayPal (using a credit card, bank account, or PayPal account), but we gladly accept checks (which avoids credit processing fees). In-kind donations are also welcome - supplies, services, etc.
Please contact us if you are an individual or group that would like to conduct a fundraiser or other possible activity. We are also always looking for volunteers to help us.
Thank you for your interest and assistance! This would not be possible without the support we get from our generous donors!
